FAIRS has partnered in goodwill projects with Josanna’s family for many years as shared by Gaynell Larsen.
Update on Josanna and how we got to know her!! Many years ago – in fact around 1998 when Dave and I traveled to Dominica at the request of a ham radio operator – Joseph Guiste – who lived in a little village in Dominica called Castle Bruce. While there we met Josanna and the Lockhart family who lived near Joseph and his wife Maria. After our first trip to Dominica, we started visiting the island every year and sometimes twice a year.
Josanna was a young teen at that time and her mother, Joan, was a minister in the village. She had just started a feeding program for the children at the school there as they were walking a great distance back home when they got out of school each day. FAIRS at that time took an interest in helping with the feeding program and in addition to that we also helped, along with a Church, to build a kitchen and bathroom in the basement of Josanna’s family home to have a place for the children to sit down and eat. After that, we helped with getting some computers going there so the children could do research and homework from the facility. After that FAIRS thought it would be a good idea to set up a Library there for the children. This project went on for many years but after Joan’s children were gone from home, this project was halted. The library was moved to the school in Wotten Waven, Dominica – this is the little village just above the Capital Roseau. Dave and I and many other hams reside there when we are in Dominica with Amateur Radio or to visit friends. Dave and I still live there with Ham Radio Friends Hetty and Clement Pierre Louis.
Josanna wanted to get into the ministry like her Mom Joan, so over the years, FAIRS helped her with this and she attended a Christian College in Jamaica where she met her husband, Orlando. She graduated from college a year before Orlando and she was blessed with a Church in Antigua to become their minister. After Orlando graduated, they married, and he moved to Antigua also. He took over the ministry at the Church and Josanna and Orlando became parents of Hesed and Lilyanna. Josanna at this time started teaching at a Christian school and took over the Youth Leadership at the Church and the area. Josanna is now very active and is Secretary and leader for many Christian areas of Antigua. We are so happy for all she has accomplished since being in Antigua. In 2024 she and Orlando were invited to travel back to Dominica and do a two-week revival in her home Village of Castle Bruce. They had a wonderful turnout each service and while there they were able to visit with family and spend time getting to know all of Josanna’s nieces and nephews.
The following pictures are from Josanna – some from Antigua and some from Dominica.
After Josanna and family returned to Antigua she put together a “Grand Christmas Caroling Rally” for the Capital in Antigua – this was posted on TV, Radio and the front page of the newspaper!
